Iran doc to vie at Swiss filmfest

Iranian short documentary ‘Safe Passage’ is set to be screened at Visions du Réel Film Festival in Switzerland.

Directed by Payam Parsafar, the documentary is to vie at the competition section of the festival’s 48th edition.

‘Safe Passage’ is about the war zones of Iran-Iraq war especially Shalamcheh, a small town located in the Khuzestan Province situated on the border with Iraq.

Approximately 50,000 Iranians died fighting around the town. Today Shalamcheh is a gateway for pilgrims headed to Karbala, a city located in central Iraq, south-west of Baghdad.

Visions du Réel is one of the only Swiss film festivals to present a majority of its films as world or international premieres.

It also offers the unique opportunity to meet the film directors, which are present at each first screening of the films.

The Festival is also a stepping stone for new talent. The prestigious Oscars and the European Film Awards academies have opened their doors to films screened at Visions du Réel.
